B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology

B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, or often known as NIT-Jalandhar or NITJ, is located in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Founded in 1987, NITJ is now one of the leading universities in the country, especially in the fields of Engineering and Technology. NITJ teaches around 3000 students at the current time. Almost 90% of the students are undergraduates. As one of the strongest university in India, 50% of students are from Punjab, while the rest are from the whole states of the country.

Academic Program

NITJ comprises 13 academic departments which offer study programs from undergraduate to postgraduate levels. The departments are as follows: Applied Chemistry, Applied Mathematics, Applied Physics, Bio-Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Humanities and Management, Industrial and Production Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Textile Technology.

Undergraduate students can choose from the available areas of study to get B.Tech, while postgraduate students can choose between M.Tech, M.Sc, and PhD degrees.

Undergraduate students can only choose to have full time program. There is B.Tech offered in nine departments: Bio Technology, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Industrial and Production Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Textile Technology. Postgraduate students can choose between full time and part time M.Tech, full time M.Sc, and PhD programs. Full time M.Tech is offered in ten departments: Bio Technology, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Control and Instrumentation Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Structural and Construction Engineering, and Textile Engineering and Management. Part time M.Tech is offered in six departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Material Science and Technology, Structural and Construction Engineering, and Textile Technology. The full time M.Sc degree is offered in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, while PhD degree is available in all departments.

Others

NITJ maintains balance student life between academic and personal development. There are nine residential hostels, 7 for males and 2 for women, in the university complex. All hostels are either equipped by dormitories or cubicles. Student activities range from tacit skills, hobbies, and spiritual and other personal development. There are Music and Dramatics Society, Literary and Debating Society, Photography Society, Fine Arts Society, Movie Club, Yoga Club, Eco Club, Hindi Samiti, sport facilities, Internet and Intranet facilities, transportation, library, departmental societies, and many others to enrich student life. The university also has many co-curricular and extra co-curricular activities to form students’ tacit knowledge.

The total tuition fee for B.tech programs, including security, hostel, and other charges is around Rs.27750 and Rs.16750 for first and next semesters, respectively. M.Sc program takes around Rs. 7000/semester. Full time M.Tech and PhD spend approximately Rs.10.000-11500 per semester, while the part time M.Tech spend around Rs. 9300 per semester.
