About Cochin University of Science and Technology:
This prestigious college was started in 1971 by the Government of Kerala keeping in mind the central government’s wish to propel the cause of scientific research in India. By 1997, the university had started admission of students of foreign nationality which boosted its popularity because the world recognized the university’s potential. With a motto that explicitly says that learning is the only savior of earth, Cochin University has strived over the years to provide excellent support to research and postgraduate courses. It offers specialization in almost all the fields that it offers. The fields which have been given foremost importance in this university are Applied Science, Technology and Industry and Commerce. The fact that the University Grants Commission has chosen this university for its excellence in the field of Laser and Opto-electronic Sciences. It has also been heralded by the HRD Ministry as a place which if upgraded properly can be at par with the IITs. Moreover, the university has liaison with others like the Southern Naval Command of the Indian Navy so that the resources that are made available because of this connection can be used for academic purposes.

The university is already on its way to immense growth. With the aid of the government, it has entered its first phase of infrastructural development and it is being re-modelled to become the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology.
