About DC:
Looked upon as one of the most premier institutions offering modern educational programs and courses in India, DC, Pune was established on October6, 1821. Initially it was set up with the objective of imparting knowledge on Archeology Linguistics, History, Sociology and Anthropology. As a result of some financial constraints, the University was temporarily shut down in 1934, only to re-open on August 17, 1939. During that time it came up as a Post-Graduate and Research Institute with the objective of endorsing higher learning and research related to the fields of Indology and Social Sciences.

The institute was merged with the University of Pune in 1948. As of now, the institute has two teaching and research Departments – Archaeology and linguistics.
