Distance Education
->
As the internet became what it is today, long distance learning has flourished. Along with highly-accredited university degree programs, there is also a wide variety of distance learning programs for people who aren’t looking for a college level education. People today not only look to long distance learning programs to earn degrees at Indian colleges and universities, but to upgrade their job skills and learn more about the things that interest them.
Many people think that long distance learning has only come about with the advent of the internet. The truth is that it’s been around since the mid 1800’s.
The first recorded distance learning course was created in the 1840’s by Sir Isaac Pitman.
On the internet, you can find a long distance learning course for just about any interest you have. Courses as diverse as introduction to wine making, herbs and natural remedies, learning a new language, art and design, hypnotherapy, information technology and flour milling are all available. Even if you’re only taking a course to pursue an interest and not a career, keep in mind that the information you’re learning is only as good as the people behind the program.
Determining whether a school you’re considering taking a course through is worth your time and money can take some research. The first thing you need to decide is whether you are wanting to work toward an advanced degree or a new career, or whether you’re just exploring some interests and want to do it for fun.
If you’ve decided to take advantage of a distance learning college to work toward an advanced degree or in order to change careers or upgrade your job skills, you’ll want to make sure that the schools you are considering have been accredited by one of the accreditation agencies recognized by the Indian Department of Education.
Once you’ve determined that the schools you are considering are legitimate, gathering opinions from former students who have completed the program is your next step. Doing a site search on our site on the name of the school is a good way to do this. Ask about the experience of other people who have completed the programs you’re considering, about the reaction of employers, and if they were able to transfer the credits to a college or university.
If you think you might want to eventually transfer the credits you’ve earned to a college or university, you’ll also need to contact that college or university to verify that they will accept credits from that school.
Enrolling in a distance learning course for fun or to just pursue learning more about something that interests you requires some research as well. Do a search on the school as well as on the instructors. Get more information about people’s experiences with the course you’re considering. You may be lucky and find that the person who created the course is well-respected among their peers, or on the other hand, find out that they’re not well-regarded at all.
Whatever the reason you’re considering long distance learning, with a little bit of research you can find the best school for you. Once you’ve decided on a school or course, all you’ll need is your time and the desire to learn.
