Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University in Lonere was founded in 1989 under the Government of Maharashtra Act 1983. Located in Lonere, Raigad district, Maharashtra, India, it is the only autonomous university in the area that focuses mainly on research and technological services. The university is affiliated to University Grants Commission (UGC).

Academic Program

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University conducts its own institute, the Institute of Petrochemical Engineering, which comprises 13 departments as follows: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering, Information technology, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Physics, Communication Skill, Polymer & Plastic Engineering, and the Department of Applied Mathematics. Besides the Institute of Petrochemical Engineering, there are also another 10 university departments that comprise all of the departments except Communication Skill, Polymer & Plastic Engineering, and Applied Mathematics.

Majority of the offered programs are approved and accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The offered degrees at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University are:

1. Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Engineering, and Diploma in Polymer & Plastic  Engineering. Among all, five are accredited by AICTE: Chemical Engineering, Electrical  Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, and Computer Engineering.
2. B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, and Civil Engineering. All of the B.Tech programs are already approved by AICTE.
3. Postgraduates programs (M.Tech) in Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Thermal and Fluids Engineering, and in Power Systems (Electrical Engineering). The programs are either approved by AICTE/Govt. of Maharashtra State.
4. PhD degrees are offered in the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology as follows: Chemical Engineering, Petrochemical Engineering, Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics., Mechanical Engineering, and Civil Engineering.

The overall fee paid by students varied by the program level. Students taking undergraduate programs paid around Rs.26.500 including tuition fee, development fund, university fees, and other fees in the 2005/2006 academic year, while those taking postgraduate programs paid around Rs.40.000. Student life ranges from annual activities in cultural, sport, competition, community gathering, social work, camping, to many others. There are hostels, conference halls, auditorium, sport facilities, and other facilities that support the academic and non-academic processes.
