About GU:
It was in the early 1920s when the idea of establishing the Gujarat University was conceived by some of the eminent personalities like Gandhiji, Sardar Patel, Acharya Anandshankar B. Dhruva, Dada Saheb Mavlankar, Kasturbhai Lalbhai and many others. However, the University came into existence only after the achievement of independence. In 1949, the University was established under the Gujarat University Act of the State Government. At that point of time, GU was looked upon ‘as a teaching and affiliating University.’Â Enlisted in the list o UGC as a recognized University, GU is also a member of the association of Indian Institutes.
