The aim of the University was “to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education with focus on new frontiers of technology, pharmacy, environmental studies, non-conventional energy sources and management studies and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields”. It was established in 1995 and since then it has stayed true in its purpose, fulfilling its role as a facilitator between knowledge and society.

It was formally inaugurated on November 1, 1995. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar Ji Maharaj, a saint environmentalist of 15th century. But the name was later changed to Guru Jambheshwar university of Science & Technology, because of its dedication to the frontiers of development and research in Science and Technology.
