ICFAI University, Dehradun

The ICFAI University, Dehradun, was established under the ICFAI University Act 2003 that was passed by the Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly on July 08,2003. Sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India, ICFAI University, Dehradun – a non-profit educational society, established in 1984. It was the objective of the Institute to impart education and training in finance and management to students as well as for the working executives and professionals in India. ICFAI University is included in the list of universities maintained by the University Grants Commission. However courses conducted within the University campus are not aided by the Grants Commission.

ICFAI Faculty

A competent and committed faculty team is in place at each campus. Most of the faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees while the others have Post Graduate Degrees and good teaching and industrial experience.

Several steps are taken to ensure quality education. These include interactive teaching, continuous multiple criteria evaluation, and feedback from students. The faculty members bring their extensive knowledge, professional experience, and advanced education to their task. The faculty are drawn from industry, leading institutions, practicing professionals, and academicians to enhance the quality of academic delivery.

Library Facilities at ICFAI Dehradun

All campuses have well-stocked libraries containing reference material, and Indian and international books and magazines. Subscriptions to industry information databases ensure that extensive research resources and publications with search facilities are available to students and faculty. In addition, the libraries contain directories, industry reports, and statistical compilations that provide timely and concise information for project work. The library facilities are open to all students and faculty members and are continuously updated with the latest books and journals.

ICFAI Computing Facilities

The latest hardware and software infrastructure are in place to cater to the computing needs of all the students and the training requirements of computer science related programs. The campuses are equipped with powerful servers and multiple terminals with multiple operating systems. The students are guided by well-experienced faculty members in the computer labs High Speed Internet access is available to the students and faculty through leased lines.

All students are also provided with laptop computers for their use.

Workshop and Laboratory Facilities

Workshops with various machine tools and equipment including a CNC machine, support hands-on training in various areas of workshop practice.

The Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Digital Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Microprocessors and Instrumentation laboratories provide facilities to students to acquire skills for the measurement of various parameters in different branches of science and technology.

The Biotechnology labs have facilities such as Laminar flow, UV Spectrophotometer, HPLC – Gas Chromatography, FTIR Spectrophotometer, Refrigerated Centrifuge, and other apparatus with appropriate spaces earmarked for testing, culturing, inoculation, etc.

The Electronics and Communication department has laboratories in the areas of Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, RF & Microwave Engineering, VLSI CAD, Communication Systems, Digital Electronics, Electronic Devices and Circuits, etc. The RF & Microwave engineering laboratory is equipped to make measurements of power, frequency, SWR, return and insertion loss, etc.

The VLSI-CAD lab is a state-of-the art laboratory and is equipped with the latest versions of EDA software tools both in the front end (FPGA advantage and Xilinx ISE Foundation series) and the back end (Tanner Tools Pro Complete package).

The Microprocessor & Microcontroller Lab is equipped with 8086, 8051 / 89C51 and PIC controller trainers, various interface cards, 8051, PIC 16F877A Development tool kit compiler software along with application cards like ADS, DAC, Stepper Motor control and Elevator. This facilitates students to develop and pursue projects in research areas, like Avionics, Robotics and embedded systems.

The Digital Signal Processing Lab is equipped with software and hardware facilities like C Compiler, Simulator and Code generation tools of TMS320CXX, Code Composer Studio of C54X and the C62X Simulation software, like Matlab & MS Visual C++. In DSP lab students work with efficient and high speed application specific processors which also promotes research at the institute and facilitates industrial collaboration in research areas, like Real-time motor control, digital-audio and imaging, wired and wireless broadband networks, telecommunications, etc.

Robotics lab is equipped to conduct research in Analytical Intelligence, Control and Development of robotics systems. The lab includes Boe-Bot test beds with several accessories to conduct experiments in areas of control, navigation, sensing, robovision, etc. The versatile, accurate 5 axis robot arm helps the students understand the actuation mechanisms, robot control, path planning, robot programming through the experimental and demo sessions. The lab also consists of design, modeling and analysis software like Pro-E, ANSYS to enable the students to develop components such as grippers, actuation mechanisms, robotic structures, etc.

Fiber-optics and Optoelectronics Lab is equipped with Fiber optic analog transmitter and receiver kit, Fiber optic analog and digital modulation and demodulation kit, Fiber optic advance digital communication kit, Laser diode and glass Fiber kit to carry out large number of experiments.

Students also learn Computer Aided Engineering Graphics packages and programming on CNC machines as part of their coursework. Further, in collaboration with like-minded industrial organizations, Faculty of Science and Technology plans to set-up research centers to carry out sponsored research projects.

Profile The ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand (hereinafter referred to as the University) was established under the ICFAI University Act 2003 (Act No.16 of 2003) passed by the Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly and assented to by the Governor on July 08,2003. The ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand is sponsored by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (Icfai), a non-profit educational society established in 1984 under the Andhra Pradesh (Telangana Area) Public Societies Registration Act, 1350 F (Act No.1 of 1350F), with the objective of imparting training in finance and management to students, working executives and professionals in India.

The ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand is included in the list of universities maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, vide their letter No. F.9-26/2003 (CPP-I) dated July 22, 2005. The Distance Education Council (DEC) has approved the programs of the ICFAI University, Dehradun.

The Bar Council of India has accorded its approval for imparting three year and five year Law Courses at ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand and award degrees in law.The University has received the approval of NCTE to offer the Bachelors Program in Education through its constituent college the Icfai College of Education.

The University believes in creating and disseminating knowledge and skills in core and frontier areas through innovative educational programs, research, consulting and publishing, and developing a new cadre of professionals with a high level of competence and deep sense of ethics and commitment to the code of professional conduct.

A number of educational programs are offered in management, finance, banking, insurance, accounting, law, information technology, arts, commerce, education and science & technology at bachelor’s and master’s levels on full-time campus and distance learning formats.

The University also allows private candidates to enroll in various programs if they satisfy the eligibility criteria. The University does not provide any courseware, nor conduct any contact classes, nor offer any other support services to private candidates. Such candidates have to prepare for the programs on their own as per the curriculum and are required to attend the examinations, as per the rules and regulations of the University. The University has no study centers/branches outside the state of Uttarakhand.
