IISER Thiruvananthapuram

IISER Thiruvananthapuram, which stands for Indian Institute of Science Education and Research or simply IISER-TVM, was established in 2008 by the Government of India. It is an autonomous educational institution which is granted the legal entity to award academic degrees to its students. The main campus will be in Vithura, Thiruvananthapuram, as a permanent building to house the whole infrastructures and academic activities have been built to replace the temporary location in Trivandrum.

Academic Program

The academic programs at IISER Thiruvananthapuram can be categorized into three:

1. Integrated MS program, which is offered in wide range of study programs. They are specialized in mostly Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics.
2. PhD program, which covers the areas of study such as Biological Science, Chemical Science, Mathematical Science, Physical Science, and also other interdisciplinary areas. Specifically, there are non linier dynamics, computational chemistry, laser spectroscopy, stochastic analysis, nanotechnology, chemical biology, structural biology, photochemistry, fluid dynamics, chemical biology, quantum metrology, and others included in the areas of research for PhD programs.
3. Post Doctoral program.

The study programs are conducted in the following: Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of mathematics, and the Faculty of Biology.

The campus comprises library, computer center, laboratories, and hostels in the complex. There are three hostels in the university, the IISER Hall of Residence I, II, and III. Hostel charges around Rs.2.000/month. The library consists of the latest books and journals from all majors. IISER Thiruvananthapuram library also manages subscription to worldwide journal database and consortium to support student learning sources such as the APS (All American Physical Society), ACS (All American Chemical Society), and AIP (All American Institute of Physics). The computer center has over 50 work stations and high-end operation system and infrastructure. Laboratory facilities are developed to support the learning and practicing process in every major, and hence all are well-equipped with the basic and additional supporting infrastructures.
