Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science is located in South Calcutta, India. It was established in 1876 with the main focus on science and its related fields. The university operates autonomously under the support of the Department Of Science and Technology India. The foundation was managed under the Act XXI of 1860 and the West Bengal State Registration Act of 1961. Most of the research programs are concentrated on the areas of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Energy, and Polymer & Materials. However, there is wide range of science fields covered in the study programs.

Academic Program

Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science comprises study programs in the following departments

  1. Department of Material Science, with main research in the areas of Nanomaterials, Magnetic Materials, Nonlinear Optical Materials, Surface Physics and Quantum Structures, Microporous and Mesoporous Materials, Computational Material Science, and in the area of Atomic, Molecular & Optical Physics.
  2. Department of Solid State Physics, with research activities conducted in wide range of areas such as Magnetic Materials, Ferrites, Nano-Composites, Polymers & Ionic Conductors, and Organic, Inorganic, & Polymer Materials, Electrical Transport, and many others.
  3. Department of Spectroscopy, with research activities in areas such as Vibration Relaxation, Molecular Geometry, SERS, and others.
  4. Department of Theoretical Physics, with research activities in Non-linear Dynamics, Chaos, Hydrodynamics, Condensed Matter Physics, Critical Phenomena, laser Assisted Atomic Collision, and else.
  5. Department of Physical Chemistry, with main research activities conducted in areas of Laser-induced Processes, Spectroscopic, Electronic Structure, and Dynamics & Statistical Mechanics.
  6. Department of Inorganic Chemistry, with researches focused on Inorganic Molecular Synthesis, Reactions and Their Mechanisms, Bioinorganic Studies, and Molecular Materials.
  7. Department of Organic Chemistry, with researches in areas such as Organometallic Chemistry, Stereoselective Synthesis, Nanochemistry, Polymerization Catalysts, Supramolecular Chemistry, Molecular Gels, and else.
  8. Department of Biological Chemistry, with research activities in related areas.

The university maintains excellent support for the research activities. For research centers, there are Raman Center for Atomic, Molecular and Optical Sciences (RCAMOS), Polymer Science Unit, Energy Research Unit, and center for Advanced Material. The library supports wide collection of book and journals. Besides the regular service, there is also online service to ease the access to information. Students also have other facilities such as workshop, student committee, and student clubs.
