Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD)

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) is one of the thirteen institutes linked to each other through Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Council. Each is an autonomous university focuses mainly on engineering and technology. The council oversees the administration and admission process, especially for undergraduate admissions. IIT universities are located in Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Kanpur, Delhi, Guwahati, Roorkee, Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Patna, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Other locations are still on planning. Some of the campuses got financial and technical assistance from UNESCO, Germany, United States, and Soviet Union.

Academic Programs

In Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, students can choose between undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs, Quality Improvement Program (QIP), online learning, dual degree programs, integrated degree programs, and interdisciplinary programs. Degrees available for undergraduate students are B.Tech and M.Tech in over ten disciplines. While the degrees available for various postgraduate programs are M.Tech, Interdisciplinary M.Tech, M. S. Research, M.Sc, M.B.A, M. Des, and Ph.D.

Overall, there are thirteen departments in Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi:

1. Applied Mechanics, which offers three courses: M.Tech in Engineering Mechanics, M.Tech in Design Engineering, and Diploma in Naval Construction (D.I.I.T.).

2. Biochemical Engineering & Biotechnology, which offers the courses to obtain B.Tech for undergraduates and M.S. (Research) in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology and Pre Ph.D. Courses for postgraduates.

3. Chemical Engineering, which offers B.Tech, Dual Degree Program in Process Engineering and Design, and Dual Degree Program in Computer Application in Chemical Engineering for undergraduate students and M.Tech in Process Engineering and Design for postgraduate students.

4. Chemistry, which offers degrees in the areas of study: Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry.

5. Civil Engineering, which offers B.Tech in various field for undergraduates. For postgraduates, there are M.Tech in Geotechnical & Geo-environmental Engineering, Structure Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Rock Engineering & Underground Structures, Construction Engineering and Management, Environmental Engineering and Management, Construction Technology & Management, and Transportation Engineering. Besides, there are also Ph.D., Doctoral, and Post-Doctoral research programs.

6. Computer Science & Engineering, which offers the programs for Ph.D., MS (Research), M.Tech, Dual Degree, B.Tech, and Casual Students.

7. Electrical Engineering, of which undergraduate programs offer B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and Electrical Power Engineering. The postgraduate programs offer M.S., M.Tech, and Ph.D in Communication Engineering, Control and Automation, Computer Technology, Integrated Electronics and Circuits, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives, and Power System.

8. Humanities & Social Sciences, which offers programs for undergraduates, Open Elective M.Tech Courses, and Pre-Ph.D Courses.

9. Management Studies, which offers programs for MBA, Doctoral, and B.Tech.

10. Mathematics, which offers Integrated M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing, M.Sc. in Mathematics, Interdisciplinary M.Tech in Computer Application, and Pre Ph.D. Courses.

11. Mechanical Engineering, which offer PhD programs in various subjects and research areas.

12. Physics, which offers the degrees Ph.D, M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Optics, and Solid State Materials,M.Tech, and B.Tech.

13. Textile Technology, which offers programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate degrees.

Besides this, the Dual Degree B.Tech- and- M.Tech Programs include Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Biochemical and Bio-Technology, Chemical Engineering. Besides this, M.Tech in Mathematics and Computing is also offered. Post-Graduate Programs are also offered.

The campus also offers amenities like playing fields staff club, post office, stadium, hospital, community centre, telecom centre shopping centre; bank etc. all other facilities like activities related to extra-curricular and physical development are provided to the students.

The establishment of the IIT-D was done in 1961. The University is under the membership of The Association of Indian Universities. According to the survey of India Today, IIT-D is ranked #2 amongst Engineering Colleges of India. And when it comes to the ranking among the Mint C-Fore Top Government Engineering College, it is placed at 4^th rank. The current Vice Chancellor of the IIT-D is Prof. V.S. Raju and the Registrar is Col. A.S. Malhotra.
