Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar is located in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. There were eight new IITs which were proposed to be founded in 2008, and IIT Bhubaneswar is the first launched among them. Started its operation in 2008, the institute offers a wide range of engineering education at undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and research levels. As for now, the permanent campus has started to operate on a land of 935 acres. The campus are supports big capacity of students, making it the second largest IIT of all after IIT Kharagpur.

Academic Program

Academic programs at IIT Bhubaneswar are conducted in some schools as follows:

1.      School of Basic Sciences. The school offers the following physics-related subjects: Theoretical High Energy Particle Physics, Quark Model Studies, Decay and Scattering Phenomena of Heavy Flavored Mesons, Parton Distributions in Proton and Proton Spin Structure, Optical Fiber Sensors, Plasmonics, Nanowires, Photonic Crystal Fiber, Computational Condensed Matter Physics, Nano Materials, Thin Films, and Deposition, Characterization for BEO, & Environmental Sensors. The fields in Chemistry are available in Organometallic Chemistry and Catalysis, Coordination Chemistry, Material Chemistry, Sensor, and Theoretical Chemistry. There are also fields in Mathematics and Biosciences: Functional Analysis, Artificial Neural Network, and Geometric Programming.

2.      School of Electrical Sciences. The school focuses on PhD degree. The covered areas are as follows: Digital Signal Processing, Soft and Evolutionary Computing, Sensor Networks, Intelligent Instrumentation, Opto-Electronics and Optical Communication, RFID, Metamaterials, Satellite Communication, and Digital, Image, & Distributed Signal Processing.

3.      School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The school offers doctoral degrees in the following subjects: Indian English Literature, Commonwealth studies, Indian Diaspora Literature, Autobiographical Travel Literature and Memoirs, International and inter-regional Trade, Rural Development and Planning, Banking and Finance, and Labor Economics.

4.      School of Infrastructure. The school offers the following fields for doctoral degrees: Structural Engineering, Structural Dynamics, Earthquake Engineering, Disaster Mitigation Engineering, Concrete Technology, Durability of Concrete, Composites, Environmental Engineering, Wastewater Treatment and Sludge Management, Greenhouse Gases and Global Warming, Geotechnical Risk and Reliability, Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering, Numerical Modeling, Mi-Geotechniques, Experimental Geo-techniques, and Corrosion of Steel in Concrete

5.      School of Mechanical Sciences. The school admits research programs in the following fields: Conjugate Heat Transfer, Thermal Engineering, Radiation Modeling, CFD/HT, Transport Phenomena in Material Processing, Ultrafast Radiation, Heat Transfer, Technical Acoustics, Noise and Vibration, and Industrial Noise Control.

In addition, there are another three schools that are proposed to be operating soon: School of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, School of Materials and Mineral Engineering, and the School of Ocean and Environmental Sciences. As most schools focus on doctoral degrees, postgraduate students have wide selection of programs to choose from. Soon when all schools are ready for operation, there will be five that grant doctoral degrees: Infrastructure, Electrical Sciences, Mechanical Sciences, Basic Sciences, and Humanities and Social Sciences. Bachelor degrees are offered for three specializations: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Each is granted from three schools: Infrastructure, Electrical Sciences, and Mechanical Sciences.

The facilities at IIT Bhubaneswar range from library service, hostel, laboratory, student clubs, entrepreneurship cell, sport center, and others that support student life. IIT Bhubaneswar comprises a fully automated library which operates using Visionary Technology in Library Solutions (VTLS), while the current hostel has capacity of over 200 students. Development process is still ongoing to comprehend the available infrastructure. But studying process has been running well as there are already enough operation set-ups for the current student number. Students can socialize and learn in cultural, technology, sport, as well as other available clubs. There are music, fine art, literary, cyber gaming, sport, and many other societies to join.
