Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IITP)

Indian Institute of Technology Patna, or also known as IIT Patna or simply IITP, was founded in 2008 as one of the 15 IITs in India. It is located in Patna, Bihar. Being built on a 45,000 sq ft land, and is supposed to finish by the second semester of 2010, the institution focuses on study programs in science, engineering, and technology. There are undergraduate and postgraduate programs offered in the academic program.

Academic Program

Indian Institute of Technology Patna conducts study programs in seven departments:

1.      Department of Computer Science and Engineering, which focuses on the following research areas: Computer Science & Engineering, Computer Security, Network traffic Management, and Mobile Computing.

2.      Department of Electrical Engineering, which offers B. Tech in Electrical Engineering and PhD in areas of Electrical Engineering. The major areas covered are Communications, Signal Processing, VLSI, Electric Drives, and Power Systems and Power Electronics.

3.      Department of Mechanical Engineering, which offers Bachelor and PhD degrees with main focuses in the following topics: Applied Mechanics and Engineering Design, Fluid and Thermal Sciences, Manufacturing Processes and Systems, Vibration, Soft tissue mechanics, Manufacturing, Condition monitoring, Biomedical robotics, Computational mechanics, Fracture, FEM, Composite, Heat transfer, Boiling and Condensation, Two-Phase Flows, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Turbulent Flows, Interfacial Flows, Laser Material Processing, Flow of Granular Materials, Non-traditional Manufacturing, Biomedical Bone Drilling, Soft computing, and Laser Forming.

4.      Department of Chemistry, which is denoted to PhD degree in Chemistry. PhD students conduct research programs in the following fields of focus: Photochemistry, Chemical Dynamics, Synthesis of Biologically Important Natural Products, Synthesis of Pot Atom and Step Economic (PASE), Diversity Oriented Synthesis (DOS), Heterocyclic Chemistry, Supramolecular Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Green Chemistry, and also Synthesis of Nano-Scale Materials and Organic Methodologies.

5.      Department of Mathematics, which offers Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral degrees with main specializations in the following: Statistical Decision Theory, Statistical Inference, Mathematical Control theory, Optimal control, Non-linear Optimization, Multi-objective Programming, Combinatorial Topology, and Geometry & Topological Graph Theory.

6.      Department of Physics, which offers undergraduate and doctoral programs in Condensed Matter Physics and Optics.

7.      Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, which focuses on the following areas: Economics, English Literature, and Linguistics.

The departments also manage their own facilities such as laboratories and research centers, as well as subscription to online journal database. Overall, there are three departments offering Bachelor programs: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. While that, PhD research programs are offered in all departments.

IIT Patna comprises facilities and infrastructures such as recreational facilities, hostels, workshops, health services, computer network, laboratories, library, student area, clubs, and sport centers. The institution also manages a local area network to support student e-learning facility. Others like post office, transportation service, and banks are located near the campus complex and reachable by students. All classrooms are equipped with supporting facilities such as LCD and audio visual equipment. The library consists of wide collection of text books, journals, and e-books to support students from every study level. Student activities range from sports like tennis, basketball, and volleyball, clubs like Literary Club, Environmental Club, Robotic Club, spiritual clubs, and other cultural & recreational events such as Teachers’ Day, Freshers’ Day, Diwali, Ganesh Puja, and many others.
