Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore

Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore is one of the institutions in ISI. There are another two in Delhi and Kolkata. First established in 1960s, the institution has now been recognized as one of the most active scientific communities in Asia region.

Academic Program

Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore comprises the following academic programs: MS in Library and Information Science, Bachelor of Mathematics, Master of Mathematics, Bachelor of Statistics, Master of Statistics, Junior Research Fellowship / Research Associateship, and Part-time Certificate Course in SQC & OR. The part time certificate courses cover programs to grant certification in Statistical Quality Control, Six Sigma, as well as statistical techniques for ISO, TS, and CMM.

PhD programs are focused on the following areas of research: Algebra and Number Theory, Harmonic Analysis, Probability, Algebraic Geometry & Topology, Functional Analysis & Operator Theory, and Statistics. To be eligible for PhD program, prospective students have to come from backgrounds such as M.Stat, M.A, M.Sc, or other equivalent degrees in Mathematics.  Those taking B.Stat, B.Math, B.A, B.Sc, or other equivalent degrees with Mathematics as the main subject in the undergraduate program will also be considered. Students can apply for PhD programs via two options: Junior Research Fellow of the Institute or Junior Research Fellow of CSIR (or NBHM). Students from Junior Research Fellow of the Institute will have to do all the entrance and interview tests.
To support the academic programs, there are routine research activities, workshops, seminars, trainings, and other events held at some departments at Indian Statistical Institute Bangalore. There are five departments in total: Documentation Research and Training Centre, Economic Analysis Unit, Statistical Quality Control and Operations Research, Statistics and Mathematics Unit, and the Systems Science and Informatics Unit.
