Indian Veterinary Research Institute Bareilly

Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) is a premier research institution in veterinary medicine and its related fields. Established in 1889 as Imperial Bacteriological Laboratory, it was not until 1925 that the institution was renamed as Imperial Veterinary Research Institute and later to the current name we know. It is also a pioneer institution in India to focus on veterinary fields. The campuses are built in Mukteshwar, Bangalore, Palampur, Bhopal, Kolkata, and Srinagar. The main campus of Indian Veterinary Research Institute is located in Izzatnagar, Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

Academic Program

Indian Veterinary Research Institute comprises master and doctoral programs in various subjects. There are over 20 disciplines taught in fields of veterinary and animal sciences, livestock products technology, basic sciences. Overall, the programs offered are as follows:

• Master’s degree programs, there are Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) in various specializations: Animal Genetics & Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Animal Biochemistry, Bio-statistics, Epidemiology, Veterinary Extension Education, Livestock Production & Management, Livestock Production & Technology, Livestock Economics, Poultry Science, Veterinary Bacteriology, Veterinary Gynecology & Obstetrics, Veterinary Immunology, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Pharmacology, Veterinary Physiology, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Surgery & Radiology, Veterinary Virology, and Animal Biotechnology.

The research activities at Indian Veterinary Research Institute are grouped into four:

1. Animal Health, with the following divisions: Avian Disease, Bacteria & Myco., Biological Products, Epidemiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Pharmacy & Toxicity, Standardization, Animal Biotechnology, Veterinary Division, Veterinary Pathology, VPH, Veterinary Surgery, and Virology.
2. Animal Production, with the following divisions: Animal Genetics, Animal Nutrition, Animal Reproduction, Livestock Production & Management, and Physiology & Climatology.
3. Basic & Social Science, with the following divisions: Biochemistry & Food Science, Extension Education, Biophysics, Electron Microscopy, & Instrumentation, and Livestock Economics, Statistics, & Information Technology.
4. Livestock Products & Technology, with the Division of Livestock Products & Technology.
