Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, or also known as IIIT, was established in 2008 as a State University. Located in New Delhi, India, the permanent building is still being built. It is proposed to finish in 2011 on a 25 acre land. The institution is founded under The IIIT Delhi Act, 2007 with main objective to do research and development in information and software technologies, as well as in engineering fields.

Academic Program

Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi offers BTech, MTech, and PhD degree programs. But for the academic year 2009, there were only B.Tech and PhD degrees offered. 1. B.Tech programs. B.Tech degree programs have been offered in 2009. From the 60 seats available for 2009’s admission, 85% was allocated for students from Delhi and the rest 15% for students from outside Delhi. Application could only be done online. The tuition fee was Rs.75.000/year (or two semesters). It was informed that the tuition for the following years, starting 2010, was likely to increase Rs.100.000 per year. Hostel and mess fee was around Rs.14.000/year. For scholarship, the best 10 students were eligible for scholarship which covered 50% of the tuition fee.
2. PhD programs. PhD programs were also offered in 2009. They covered three main research areas: Biometrics, Data Management, and Software Engineering. In the future, there will be one more research area to focus on: Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing. The institution has also maintained collaborations with worldwide universities and institutions such as West Virginia University, Michigan State University, Osaka University, University Polytechnic Milan, Microsoft Research – Bangalore, IBM India Research Lab, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Aizu, and others to perform synergy research activities. The tuition cost for 2009 was Rs.20.000/month. It was expected to rise to Rs.25.000/month during the 2^nd and 4^th years. PhD programs were available for full time students only.
