Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai (MUICT)

The Institute of Chemical Technology Mumbai, founded in 1936, is deemed to be a university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It is located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. The institute is also known as Mumbai University Institute of Chemical Technology (MUICT). Consistently ranked among the top 20 in the country, Institute of Chemical Technology has been gaining national reputation and acknowledgements.

Academic Program

Institute of Chemical Technology comprises four academic departments as follows:

1. Chemical Engineering. The department grants Bachelor in Chemical Engineering for undergraduate degree. The postgraduate degrees offered are Master in Chemical Engineering Master of Technology (in Bioprocess Technology and in Perfumes and Flavors), and PhD in Chemical Engineering and in Chemistry.
2. Chemical Technology. The department comprises six branches: Dyestuff Technology, Fiber and Textile Processing, Food Engineering & Technology, Oil Oleochemicals and Surfactants Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology, and Polymer Engineering and Surface Coating Technology.
3. General Engineering
4. Applied Science. The department comprises three branches: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics.

Overall, there are four year undergraduate programs to grant B.Tech degrees in Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, and Chemical Technology. The B.Tech in Chemical Technology is divided into 7 branches as follows: Dyes, Foods, Oils, Paints, Polymer, Pharmaceutical, and Textile. The postgraduate programs at Institute of Chemical Technology have also gained ‘A” ranking from the Department of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra State, as well as acknowledged as the best in the country by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

In addition, there are other centers, departments, and programs at Institute of Chemical Technology:

1. UGC Center of Advanced Studies (CAS), which works on the areas of Chemical Engineering, Physics-chemical aspects of Fibers, Plastics & Dyes, Technology of Intermediates & Dyes, Paints & Polymer Technology, and Technology of Fibers & Textile Processing.
2. UGC Department of Special Assistance (DSA), which works on the areas of Food & Fermentation Technology, Technology of Oils, Surfactants & Oleochemicals, Pharmaceutical Technology & Pharmacy.
3. UGC COSIST (Committee for Strengthening the Infrastructure in Sc. & Tech.), which works on the areas of Food & Fermentation Technology and Pharmaceutical Technology & Pharmacy.
4. FIST Program of DST, which works on Chemical Engineering and Food & Fermentation Technology.
