International Institute of Population Sciences Mumbai

The International Institute of Population Sciences is a deemed university founded in 1956. The institute is located in Mumbai, India. Declared as deemed university in 1985, it is now operating autonomously under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Over the years, students from 42 different countries have graduated from International Institute of Population Sciences.

Academic Program

Academic program at International Institute of Population Sciences is offered as follows:

1. Master of Population Studies (MPS)/ Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Population Studies. There are 30 seats available for the program. Students with Master Degree in Economics, Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology, Geography, Social Work, Population Studies, Mathematics or Statistics can apply for the MPS and M.Phil programs. Information about the admission is published in March or April each year.
2. Master of Population Studies (MPS) Correspondence Course. The total number of seats is 50 for the MPS Correspondence Course.  In addition the regular course, there is also a Distance Education Program for Master’s Degree in Population Studies. Students from any Social Science background can apply for the program. Course is started every July.
3. Diploma in Population Studies (DPS) Correspondence Course. Prospective students from all bachelor degrees can apply for the DPS course. There are 50 seats available.
4. Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Population Studies. Students who hold Master degree in Population Studies or pass the National Educational Testing (NET) in Population Studies can apply for the program.
5. Diploma in Health Promotion Education (DHPE). The program is offered in affiliate with the Family Welfare Training and Research Centre (FWTRC), Mumbai.
6. Short Term Courses. Short term training programs are offered in various fields.
7. IIPS-JHU Course on FPRH
8. M.A./M.Sc Program in Population Studies. The program offers 20 seats. Students who hold Bachelor degrees in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Geography and Anthropology, and Rural Development & Political Science can apply for the program.

International Institute of Population Sciences maintains a wide range of facilities to support the studying and teaching process. The library is a comprehensive one with huge collection of books, reprints, journals, papers, bound periodicals, and so on. There are resources for many different subjects such as Demography, Family Welfare, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Public Health, Sociology, Geography, and many others. The library is also equipped with electronic answering, document delivery, Internet, reprographic, and email services. There are computer center, data center, hostel, meeting areas, student event areas, sport facilities, medical facilities, cafeteria, and others in the campus complex. There are two hostels at International Institute of Population Sciences. Sport facilities range from badminton, cricket, carom, volleyball, shot-put, to long jump. Students are likely to find whatever they need at the campus complex.
