International Medicine University

International Medicine University, founded in 1992, is the first private medical school in Malaysia. Now located in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the university was known as International Medical College (IMC) in 1992 and located in Petaling Jaya. International Medicine University has partnerships with 27 universities worldwide, including those in United Kingdom, Ireland, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, by which twinning programs are conducted. 

Academic Program

International Medicine University comprises ten undergraduate courses:

1. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), which is available for both locally and twinning program.
2. Bachelor of Dental Surgery, is available for both locally and twinning program.
3. Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons)
4. Master of Pharmacy, which is available for twinning program with University of Strathclyde in Scotland.
5. Bachelor of Nursing (Hons)
6. Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Pharmaceutical Chemistry
7. Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Medical Biotechnolgy
8. Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Nutrition and Dietics
9. Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Psychology

10.  Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science

While the postgraduate studies offers areas of research in: Environmental Health, Biochemistry Community Health, Molecular Biology or Biotechnology, Human and Medical Genetic, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Clinical Research, Cancer or Oncology, Chronic Diseases, Infectious Diseases, Building Related Illnesses, and Pharmaceutical Science. The degree Master of Science (MSc) takes around 1-4 years for full time students and 2-6 years for part time students. While the degree Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) takes around 2-6 years for full time students and 4-8 years for part time students. Both are obtained primarily through research in areas of bioactive molecules, vaccine and drug development, therapeutics, pharmaceutics, cellular mechanisms and molecular basis of pathogenesis, clinical research, community-based health issues, nutrition and dietetics, behavioural studies, and medical education.

The twinning programs are conducted with 27 universities worldwide such as: University of Adelaide, University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, University of Queensland, University of Tasmania, University of Western Australia, National University of Ireland, University of Auckland, University of Leeds, University of Leicester, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Southampton, Jefferson Medical College, and Dalhousie University.

Others

International Medicine University houses many facilities to provide quality education and life for the students. There are Clinical Skills Unit, Nursing Skills Unit, Library, Multi-Discipline Laboratories, Multi-Purpose Halls, Lecture Theatre, Seminar Rooms, Problem-Based Learning rooms, computer laboratories, pathology laboratories, students’ centre, student lounges, and gymnasium. There are Vista Komanwel Condominiums, five minutes walk from the university with monthly cost ranges from RM350 – RM475, if students want to stay on campus.
