There are four Educational Institutions affiliated by Jadavpur University. They are Jadavpur Vidyapith College of Education, Institute of Business Management conducted by the National Council of Education, Shrimati J. D. Birla Institute and the Marine Engineering and Research Institute.

Fighting for technical education in India since 1905, Jadavpur University got its establishment registration on 24th December 1955. JU has 34 departments structured into three Faculties: Faculty of Arts, Engineering and Technology and Science. It was only after Independence, that the Government of West Bengal, in consensus with the Govt. of India, enacted the necessary legislation established Jadavpur University on the December 24, 1955. Initially, following were the objectives of setting up the institute:
Promoting and pursuing higher education, exploring new arenas of academic administration and setting up a role model for academic leadership. With such high-held objectives, JU has now successfully established itself as one of the foremost Indian Universities with a vast range of courses offered, a superb list of faculty members and has come to be known for its commitment towards advanced study and research.
