Kannur University

Kannur University is a public university established in 1996. Located in Kannur, Kerala, India, the university is also affiliated to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The academic programs of the Kannur University are conducted in four campuses: Thalassery Campus, Mangattuparamba Campus, Payyannur Campus, and Mananthavady Campus. The in Mangattuparamba one is the main campus of the university.

Academic Program

The schools and teaching departments at Kannur University are as follows:

1. School of Historical and Cultural Studies, with the Department of History & Heritage Studies. It offers 20 seats for MA History & Heritage Studies.
2. School of Wood Technology, with the Department of Wood Science & Technology. The school offers 15 seats for M.Sc. Wood Science & Technology.
3. School of Behavioral Sciences, which offers full time M Sc in Clinical and counseling Psychology program as well as full and part time PhD program.
4. School of English & Foreign Languages, with the Department of Studies in English. The school offers 20 seats for MA, 6 seats for M.hil, 20 seats for PGDVM, and also PhD degree program.
5. School of Social Sciences, with the Department of Anthropology. The school offers 12 seats for M.A in Anthropology, 4 seats for M. Phil in Anthropology, and also PhD degree program.
6. School of Life Sciences, with the Department of Biotechnology & Microbiology. The school offers M.Sc in Biotechnology and in Microbiology.
7. School of Management Studies, with the Department of Management Studies. The school offers MBA degree programs with the specializations of Marketing, Finance, Human Resource Management, Information Technology & Systems, and International Business Management.
8. School of Information Science & Technology, with the Department of Information Technology. The school offers 20 seats for M.C.A program, 30 seats fro M.Sc in Computer Science, and also PhD program.
9. School of Development Studies, with the Department of Applied Economics. The school offers MA in Applied Economics and PhD program.
10. School of Legal Studies, with the Department of Law. The school offers 45 seats for 5-year LL.B, 60 seats for 3-year LL.B, and 12 seats for 2-year LL.M in Constitution & Administrative Law.
11. School of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, with the Department of Physical Education. The school offers 30 seats for Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P. Ed.), 30 seats for Master of Physical Education (M.P. Ed.), 10 seats for M.Phil, and full time & part time PhD program.
12. School of Chemical Sciences, with the Department of Chemistry. The school offers 12 seats for M.Sc. in Chemistry and also PhD degree program.
13. School of Pure and Applied Physics, with the Department of Physics. The school offers 12 seats for M.Sc. in Physics. Research programs are focused on Material Science, Solid State Physics, Computational Physics, and Thin Film Technology.
14. School of Visual and Fine Arts, with the Department of Music. The school offers MA in Music with specialization in Karnatic Music.
15. School of Pedagogical Sciences, which offers 20 seats for M.Ed program. There is also PhD degree program.
16. School of Indian Languages, with the Department of Kannada. The school offers 5 seats for M.Phil in Kannada, PhD in both Kannada and Malayalam, and each 40 seats for Certificate course in Kannada and Malayalam. PhD students can take part time or full time programs.
17. School of Health Sciences, with the Department of Medical Bio Chemistry & Medical Biology. The school offers each 15 seats for M.Sc in Medical Bio Chemistry and M.Sc in Medical Micro Biology, and each 5 seats for M.Sc in Medical Bio Chemistry and M.Sc in Medical Bio Micro Biology.
18. School of Distance Education. Distant learning programs are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees as well. There is B.A in Economics, English Literature, and in History, 5-year Afzal-Ul Ulma program, B. Com, and B. Sc in Mathematics for undergraduates, while there is M.A in English, M.Sc. in Mathematics, and M. Com programs for postgraduates. There is also B.C.A and B.B.A Professional Courses and 1-year Certificate Course conducted by the school.

In addition, there are other teaching departments in the university. They are the Department of Geography, Department of Mathematical Science, Department of Statistical Sciences, Department of Environmental Science, Department of Zoology, Department of Rural & Tribal Sociology, Department of Malayalam, Department of Molecular Biology, and the Department of Hindi.
