Karnataka Women’s University is located in Bijapur, Karnataka, India. Founded in 2003, it is the only university in the state. The university is devoted solely for women’s education development so that they can have effective and constructive role in the society.
Academic Program
Karnataka Women’s University comprises five main areas of study.
- Faculty of Humanities, which comprises the departments of Kannada and English. The faculty offers MA in Kannada, PG Diploma in Translation, MA in English, and Certificate Course in English Proficiency.
- Faculty of Social Sciences, which comprises the departments of Economics, Social Work, Journalism and Mass Communication, Sociology, Library and Information Science, and Women Studies. The faculty offers MA in Economics, MA in Journalism and Mass Communication, MA in Sociology, MA in Women Studies, PG Diploma in Women and Empowerment, M.L.I.Sc, M.S.W, Certificate Course in Library Science, and Certificate Course in Panchayati Raj Institutions.
- Faculty of Science Technology, which comprises the departments of Bio-Informatics, Bio-Technology, Computer Science, Electronics, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The faculty offers M.Sc in Computer Science, M.Sc in Bio-Technology, M.Sc in Bio-informatics, M.Sc in Electronics, M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, PG Diploma in Computer Applications, Certificate Course in Office Automation, and Certificate Course in Visual Programming.
- Faculty of Education, which comprises the departments of Physical Education and Education. The programs are available for the following degrees: M.Ed, B.Ed, M.P.Ed, and B.P.Ed.
- Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, which comprises the departments of Management Studies. The faculty offers Master of Business Administration in specializations of Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, and Information Technology & Systems. There will also be PhD degree program soon.
Research activities are focused on areas such as Women and Nutrition, Rob of SHG, NGO in Women Empowerment, Literacy Program for Rural Women, Socio-Economic Conditions of Religion Minority, NGO Management, Promotion of Pre Membership of Women, Media and Women, Application or IT in Libraries and User Studies, Bio Pesticide, Drug Designing, Plant Genomics, and Physical Training & Endurance of Women. Dual degree programs are available for any regular PG Diploma, which will later be combined with Certificate courses in vocational subjects.

Karnataka Women’s University maintains comprehending infrastructures in the campus complex as well. There is library that contains over 45,000 books. There are also others such as periodicals, e-journals through both J-Gate and e-Gateway, journal subscriptions, back volumes, newspaper, e-books, e-directories, and others. The university also manages temporary and permanent affiliates with over 45 colleges.
