The departments at Kerala University each offer the following degree programs:
1.     Department of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries. The department offers M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D degree programs. Areas of research are focused on Aquatic Ecology, Aquaculture Microbiology, and Fish and Shellfish diseases.
2.     Department of Arabic. The department offers MA, PhD, PG Diploma, and M.Phil degree programs.
3.     Department of Archaeology. The department offers M.A in Archaeology.
4.     Department of Biotechnology. The department offers M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Ph.D. in Biotechnology, and also short term training course in Bacteriological Quality of Drinking Water.
5.     Department of Biochemistry. The department offers M.Sc, M.Phil, and PhD. Areas of research are in experimental atherosclerosis and allied diseases, experimental diabetes and allied diseases, biochemistry and Immunology of parasites/filariasis, matrix biology, cell surface macromolecules and cellular interaction, environmental biochemistry & biochemical toxicology, micronutrients in health and disease, and bioactive substances of natural origin.
6.     Department of Botany. The department offers M.Sc. in Genetics & Plant Breeding, M.Phil, and PhD degree programs. Areas of research are focused on Cytotaxonomy, Palynology, Biotechnology, Tissue culture, and Molecular Biology.
7.     Department of Chemistry. The department offers M.Sc in Analytical, Inorganic, Organic, Polymer, and Physical Chemistry; M.Phil in Inorganic, Organic, Physical Chemistry; and PhD in Analytical, Environmental, Inorganic, Organic, Polymer, Physical Chemistry. The areas of research include coordination chemistry, thermal decomposition of solids, redox titrimetry in aqueous media, pharmaceutical analysis, photochemistry, organic synthesis, heterocyclic chemistry, chemical kinetics, and others.
8.     Department of Commerce. The department offers M.Phil, M.Com, PhD, and PGDT degree programs. Areas of research include Finance, Marketing, Banking, Co-operation, Rural Development, and General Management.
9.     Department of Communication & Journalism. The department offers M.C.J and PhD programs.
10. Department of Computer Science. The department offers M.Tech in Computer Science, M.Sc. in Computer Science, and Ph.D in Computer Science. The areas of research cover Neural Networks Neuro, Fuzzy Control Systems, Computer Networking, Image processing, Data Compression, as well as Genetic Algorithms
11. Department of Demography. The department offers M.Sc and M.Phil degrees. The areas of research include Fertility, Migration, Family Panning, and Population & Development.
12. Department of Economics. The department offers M.A, M.Phil, and Ph.D. The areas of research are Gender Studies, Kerala Economy, Labor Economics, International Trade, Development Economics, and also Demographic Changes.
13. Department of Education. The department offers M.Ed, M.Phil in Education & Higher Education, and Ph.D degrees. The areas of research cover Curriculum Development, Educational Technology, and also Learning and Achievement Correlated.
14. Institute of English. The department offers MA, M.Phil, and PG Diploma in English for Communication. The areas of focus of the institute are British Literature, American, Canadian, & Australian Literature, Commonwealth or Diaspora Literature, Film Studies, English Language Teaching, New Literatures, Gender Studies, Modern Literary Theory, as well as Indian Writing.
15. Department of Environmental Sciences. The department offers M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D with areas of focus in Environment Analysis.
16. Department of Futures Studies. The department offers M.Tech in IT and Technology Management, Master of Tourism Administration, and M.Phil.
17. Department of Geology. The department offers M.Sc, M.Phil, and Ph.D degrees with specializations in Sedimentology, Kinematics of Shear Zones, and Hydrogeology.
18. Department of German. The department offers M.A. Diploma in German, Certificate in German, and Certificate of Proficiency in German for Grade I with specializations in German Literature and Comparative Studies.
19. Department of Hindi. The department offers MA, M.Phil, Ph.D, and P.G Diploma in Functional Hindi and Journalism.
20. Department of History. The department offers M.A, M.Phil, and Ph.D degrees with focus in Modern Period.
21. Institute of Distance Education. The department offers distance education programs for undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and also certificate courses. Prospective students can visit the university’s site to find information about the currently-offered distance learning programs. They are mainly offered in 11 faculties: English, Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, History, Malayalam, Political Science, Hindi, Sociology, and Public Administration & Tourism.

28. Department of Mathematics. The department offers M.Phil, M.Sc, and PhD degrees with specializations in Semi-groups, Commutative Algebram, Graph Theory, and Approximation Theory.
29. Department of Music. The department offers MA in Music with specializations in Music Documentation and Revival of Bhajana Paddhati.
30. Department of Optoelectronics. The department offers M.Tech and PhD degrees with specializations in Holography, Nonlinear Optic Materials, Laser Raman Spectroscopy, and Lazer Spectroscopy.
31. Oriental Research Institute & Manuscripts Library. The department offers PhD in Sanskrit, PhD in Malayalam, PhD in Tamil, M.Phil Manuscriptology in Sanskrit, Malayalam & Tamil, and also MA Elective in Manuscriptology for Sanskrit & Hindi. The specializations are in Critical Edition of Manuscripts, Teaching Ancient Scripts, and Principles of Textual Criticism.
32. Department of Philosophy. The department offers MA, M.Phil, and PhD with specializations in Existentialism, Advaita Vedanta, and Contemporary Philosophy.
33. Department of Physics. The department offers M.Sc, PhD, and M.Phil degrees with specializations in Vibrational Spectroscopy Thin Films, Nanostructured Materials, Crystal Growth, Spectrophotometric Studies, Inospheric Physics, and also Space Physics.
34. Department of Political Science. The department offers MA, M.Phil, and PhD degrees with specializations in Indian Society and Politics, International Politics, and Political Economy of Kerala.

40. Department of Tamil. The department offers MA, M.Phil, and PhD degrees with specializations in Grammar Linguistics-Cultural History, Sangam Literature & Literary Theories, Grammar and Linguistics, and Comparative Literature.
41. Department of Zoology. The department offers M.Sc, M.Phil, and PhD with specializations in Endocrinology, Biodiversity, and Insect Neuropeptide.
