Established in 1973, Kumaun University Nainital comprises of two campuses along with an upcoming one. KU has 28 affiliated colleges under its wing, and as far as the territorial jurisdiction of the University is concerned, it extends ovet the entire Kumaun region. Teaching and research activities are all carried out in the residential campuses and also in the University affiliated colleges. Being located in the hilly regions of the Uttaranchal, KU serves the educational needs and demands of the economically and socially weaker sections. KU is one among the other recognized institutes by the UGC. Also an active member of the AIU, courses conducted within the campus is also UGC funded.
