Educational Programs:

NOU offers Under Graduate, Post Graduate as well as Post Graduate Diploma programs. Apart from these regular courses, the University also provides a number of vocational certification courses, course duration ranging from 4 weeks to four months and even nine months.

UG Courses: B.Com, B.A in economics, Hindi, political science, psychology, sociology, geography, tourism and home science, B.Sc in botany, chemistry, geography, mathematics, physics, zoology , home science, BCA courses and Bachelor of Library & Information Science.

PG Courses: M.A. in Economics, Geography, Hindi, History, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Rural Development, Journalism & Mass Communication, Masters of Library & Information Science and M.Com.

PG Diploma Courses: Post-Graduate Diploma in Marketing, financial management, journalism, yogic studies and disaster management.

Facilities – NOU provides the following facilities to the students: fully computerized central library, health care centers, placement and training facilities and hostel accommodation.

About NOU:
Established in March 1987, NOU came into existence by an ordinance passed by the Government of Bihar. The institute has been named after the famous Nalanda University of Ancient India. NOU is the first of its kind university in the state Bihar that came up with the program of offering education exclusively through the system of distance education. Administrative functions are carried on from the University campus office in Biscomaun Bhawan at Patna. NOU is recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC), University Grants Commission, and Ministry of HRD, for imparting correspondence education. Although recognized by the UGC, NOU is not funded by the Grants Commission.

Nalanda Open University is the only university of its type in the state of Bihar, that has been set up exclusively for the purpose of imparting education and learning to those who cannot attend regular University classes for some reason or the other. With the aim of delivering its service efficiently and effectively, several educational centers across the state have been set up by the University.
