The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal is a residential engineering college; which offers its students with hostel accommodation. There are separate hostels for women’s. About National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli:
The National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal, also known as KREC, is an autonomous university of India. The Government of Karnataka and the Government of India established the institute jointly in July 1960. It was earlier known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal (KREC). KREC came under Mangalore University when it was started in 1980. All the under-graduate courses were converted to four year terms from earlier five years courses. On June 26, 2002, KREC was renamed National Institute of Technology, Karnataka and was given the status of a deemed university by the University Grants Commission.
