Although the BA (LLB) course is now to be found across many institutions in the country, yet it was first introduced in NLSIU. Subjects taught in the first year are History, Political Science, Sociology and Economics along with the standard legal subjects. After that it is mainly legal subjects that constitute the curriculum. NLSIU academic programs comprises of a number of subjects that are not to be found in other institutions of its kind like, viz, International Commercial Transactions, Law, Poverty & Development. In the final year the students get to special in whichever areas they like and to do seminar courses in them.

Facilities – Being a residential cum teaching institution, NLSIU has complete residential facilities for its students and staff. It has a main academic block, a distance education block, three Halls of Residence each for men and women, one post- graduate women’s hostel, staff quarters and a well equipped training centre with residential facilities for participants participating in the training programs. Within the campus, there is also a basketball, tennis, and volley ball court, a football ground, a gymnasium, computer lab, the University Library, banking facilities and health care units.

The infrastructure of the National Law School of India University, Bangalore was set up on August 29, 1987, under the National Law School of India Act (Karnataka Act 22 of 1986). Since its inception, NLSIU has been enlisted as one of the UGC recognized universities, and is also a paneled member of the AIU. Presently, the institute is looked upon as one of the top notch institutions for Law education in India.
