University of Chicago



University of Chicago, founded in 1891, is located in Hyde Park, Chicago, Illinois, United States. Ranked among the top ten in national and International, University of Chicago is well-known for its contribution to academic scholarship and intellectualism. Other reputations are built through a number of discoveries in scientific and physics, including 81 Nobel Prize winners and over 3,200 patents. The university has 114 buildings in the campus complex.

Academic Program
There are 49 majors and 22 minors in the undergraduate programs covering subjects such as African and African-American Studies. Chemistry, Germanic Studies, Anthropology, Art History, Biological Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Cinema and Media Studies, Civilization Studies, Geographical Studies, Classical Studies, Computer Science, Early Christian Literature, Economics, Gender Studies, English Language & Literature, History, Environmental Studies, Philosophy, Natural Sciences, Linguistics, Political Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Medieval Studies, Music, Psychology, Visual Arts, Statistics, Theater and Performance Studies, Tutorial Studies and many others.

The graduate programs have divisions of Biological Sciences, Humanities, Physical Sciences, and Social Sciences in the six graduate professional schools: the Divinity School, Booth School of Business, Law School, Pritzker School of Medicine, Irving B. Harris Graduate School of Public Policy Studies, and the School of Social Service Administration. The other one, the Graham School of General Studies serves for the Continuing Education program.

Facilities
Students in University of Chicago have 20 organizations to join, consist of 14 fraternities and six sororities. There is also a “House System”, a smaller community of residence hall. Students can choose between living on campus or off campus.

Tuition fee can be accessed in one of four ways: by residence status, number of courses, enrollment in a Professional Degree Program, and by program enrollment and course fees. Tuition fee for college taking one to five courses are from $5,400 to $16,578 per quarter. The tuition fee for Divinity School ranges from $247 to $12,426 per quarter and from $1,650 to $4,861 per quarter for Graham School for General Studies. The Humanities Division ranges from $247 to $17,968 per quarter, the Law school from $1,462 to $14,666 per quarter, the Medicine school from $247 to $12,912 per quarter, the Physical Sciences division from $247 to $19,952 per quarter, and so on. In average, total expense budget for resident students in the academic year 2009/10 is $54,340, while it is $46,740 and $52,340 for each commuter and off-campus students respectively. The calculation already include the book and personal expenses, maintenance allowance for commuters, room and board fee, student life expense, and of course the tuition fee.
