University of Edinburgh



University of Edinburgh is located in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom. It is founded in 1582 as the sixth oldest university in the British Isle, now having the reputation of 5th to 6th best both in UK and Europe. Current students are around 24,300, consist of 17,000 undergraduate and 7,200 postgraduate students. Based on a 2008 rank Edinburgh is the best for Computer Science and Physics in UK, while number two for Medicine and Veterinary Science. Edinburgh is also known for its diversity, with 10,000 staffs from around the world and well-diversified students.

University of Edinburgh has affiliations with Russell Group, Coimbra Group, LERU, Universitas 21, and EUA. For undergraduate programs, the tuition fee ranges from £11,000 to £30,500 per year for oversea students depending on the subject taken. For graduate programs, the tuition fee ranges from £9,800 to £26,700.

Academic Program
There are three colleges at University of Edinburgh offering a total of 600 different degrees:

  1. College of Humanities and Social Science with 11 schools: School of Arts, Culture and Environment, School of Divinity, School of Health in Social Science, School of History, Classics and Archaeology, School of Law, School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, University of Edinburgh Business School, Moray House School of Education, School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences, School of Social and Political Sciences, and The Office of Lifelong Learning.
  2. College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine with four schools: School of Biomedical Sciences, School of Clinical Sciences and Community Health, School of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, and Royal School of Veterinary Studies.
  3. College of Science and Engineering with seven schools: School of Biological Sciences, School of Chemistry, School of GeoSciences, School of Engineering, School of Informatics, School of Mathematics, and School of Physics and Astronomy.

University of Edinburgh also offers Summer Courses, Continuing Professional Development, and part-time Access Courses. Subjects in Summer Courses are such as Art and Architecture, Creative Writing, History, Literature, Film and Media, Personal Development, Psychology, Philosophy and Religion, Languages (for French, Italian, German, Japanese, and Spanish), Science and Nature, and Personal Development.

The subjects for Continuing Professional Development are such as Veterinary Medicine, Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Languages, Science and Engineering, Studies of Arab World, Law, Medicine, and others.

The part-time Access Courses cover subjects as followed: Archaeology, Community Education, Divinity and Religious Studies, English and Scottish Literature, History, History of Art, Law, Philosophy, Politics, Psychology, Scottish Ethnology, Social Anthropology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Sociology. The fee is around £432 for one year.
