The University of Madras was established in the year 1857 by Lord John Elphinstone. It has recently completed 1500 years. It offers a wide variety of courses. It offers distance education Courses as well as Open University facility to help students who can not continue with regular classes.

The university is known for imparting quality education. The University is situated in the southern part of the city of Chennai and has four Campuses at Chepauk, Marina, Guindy and Taramani. This University has been awarded with the ˜five star status™ by The National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
