About Pune University. Formerly known as the University of Poona, Pune University was set up on February 10, 1948, under the University Act of Poona that was passed by the Bombay Legislature. Territorial jurisdiction of the university extends over the 5 districts, viz, Pune, Ahmednagar, Nasik, Dhule and Jalgaon. PU has been listed as one of the recognized institutes by the UGC and it is also an active member of the AIU.

Educational Programs:
Pune University has emerged to be the center of academic excellence. The University is well equipped with 46 academic departments, 269 affiliated colleges out of which 11 are for girls, 129 research institutes. Courses offered are:

• Certificate Courses: Cosmetics and Beauty Treatment, E-commerce, Weapon System and Yoga.
• Diploma Courses: Number of foreign languages, Yoga, Law, Marketing, BM, Clinical Pathology, Criminology, CM and many others.
• Under-Graduate Courses: B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, BAMS, BPharm, B.Ed, BDS, BCS.
• Post-Graduate Courses: M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, MCA, MBA, MPharm, M.Ed, MCH, MD.
• Doctorate Courses: M.Phil and PhD in Economics.

Facilities The University has excellently housed all the necessary facilities required in order to carry out extensive teaching and research programs. Infrastructure is well equipped with Chemical Laboratory for Air, Water, Soil analysis, Biological Laboratory for the Bio-diversity studies, Air Conditioned Computer Laboratory equipped with ten computers, four printers, scanner, and other peripherals with internet connection, G.I.S. and Remote Sensing Facilities, Automatic Weather Monitoring Facilities, Ion Analyzer and Smoke meters for vehicular emission studies, Ion Chromatograph, Portable equipment facilities for Air, Water Pollution studies in the field, T.V. and V.C.R. for Educational Purposes, Library facility, Study Rooms, Research Rooms, Locker facilities and Xerox machine facility..
